Gabriela Margarita Della Corna: 27 letters, 4 words, all ending in the letter “A.” She also goes by Bre: pronounced like the cheese, not spelled like it, even though it should be. Gabriela lived right outside of Pittsburgh, Washington, D.C., and Phoenix during the first 22 years of her life, but now she’s finally living IN a city (and one that she’s dreamed of living in since she was a little girl!).
Bre is happy to be alive, happy to be surrounded by amazing people, and happy to do what she loves every day.
What is your role at Kworq? How long have you worked here?
I am a graphic designer here at Kworq. And oh, I’m still just a baby: we’re coming up on my fourth month in February.
Where were you photographed? Why was that your choice?
The Opening Ceremony store here on Howard Street! Why? Because I’m a clothes freak. When I found out Kworq’s office was across the road from a brand I admire so much, I knew it was fate. And potentially a nightmare for my wallet. But hey, I can still look can’t I?
Why did you want to work at Kworq?
Kworq drew me in with their dynamic approach to storytelling and their production company/creative agency combo. I also love the wide range of clients: it lets me switch up my work day-to-day.
Why did you get into Advertising?
“Advertising” kind of seems like a dirty word doesn’t it? Maybe it’s just me, hah. But I do have a passion for helping ethically good brands succeed and bringing their work into the public eye. Hopefully in doing that we can simultaneously make the world a little bit better.
What is your favorite part about working in advertising?
I love being approached by brands from all different industries, especially industries I previously knew nothing about. Getting to dive deeper and educate myself on what other people are passionate about is exciting for me.
What is your least favorite part about working in advertising?
I hate the sentiment that it’s all about the money (cue nose wrinkle). Money is what makes the world go ‘round and therefore it holds a high priority in what we do. But I’d like to believe that it’s about more than just that.
What’s the hardest part about what you do?
Hmm. As a designer I think the hardest part is finding the balance between constantly pushing your creativity, yet still coming up with practical solutions for the client. Some people are more open to change than others, so you definitely have to pick your battles.
Where do you want to be in five years?
In New York still of course! Conquering the world via the greatest city in the world!
What’s your greatest inspiration for what you do?
I love drawing inspiration from everything that surrounds me. But as a rule, if I’m searching for inspiration for a new poster design for example, I don’t like looking at other posters. I try to look at photographs, book layouts, fashion shows, storefronts, opening credits for movies, etc. I then pick the elements that really excite me and see how I can interpret them into the media I’m working with.
What was the last thing you watched that you really liked? Why?
I’m a sucker for animated movies… I just saw Coco and definitely cried. The imagination that goes into these made-up worlds is so refreshing and awe-inspiring. There were so many gorgeous colors, scenes, and sounds. Also, family is everything to me, and that’s the focus of the movie. Overall it was just really well-done.
How do you keep the creative juices flowing outside of Kworq?
I love being able to use design to make things I’ve always dreamed of making: gorgeous magazines about food, hand-bound journals full of dot-grid paper, an amazing poster about how ugly the painted walls are at the apartment I’m renting, that kind of thing.
I’m also a photographer outside of work. This is something I’m constantly learning about and pushing myself with, just for the fun of it. Sometimes I get paid to do it which is even nicer, haha. I’m currently building my photography portfolio website, so for now Instagram will have to do as an informal peek: @breee_cheeese.
